World Lit

The image I drew represents the fact that a work of literature is much more than what we see on the surface. When looking at a piece, we first see the big picture, the universal qualities of literature (represented by the globe). Then, as we dig deeper into historical details, cultural background, circumstances, languages and linguistics, and author biography, a deeper level of comprehension is gained (repesented by the pins stuck throughout the globe). This new understanding may be taken and placed in an international/universal context, looking at how it fits into the grand scheme and how it compares with and connects to other aspects of the world and other texts (represented by the thread connecting all the pins).
